Our Mission | Piano Fitness
The vision and purpose behind Piano Fitness—open, structured tools for piano practice
Bridging a gap in piano practice
Piano Fitness began with a simple observation: there are many excellent resources for learning repertoire, but fewer tools that make technical practice visible, structured, and easier to continue. Traditional technique books remain valuable; Piano Fitness adds an interactive way to work through musical patterns at the keyboard.
We believe technical fluency supports musical expression. The aim is not to reduce music to a score, but to give learners clear, useful evidence as they develop familiar patterns under their hands.
Our purpose
We build open, evidence-informed tools that help people practise, understand, and teach musical skills.
Piano Fitness complements traditional piano education rather than replacing it. It is intended to work alongside private lessons, music schools, and self-directed learning.
Our values
Learner agency
Practice should support curiosity and independence. The app offers structure and feedback without turning practice into surveillance or punishment.
Accessibility and privacy
We want useful practice tools to remain accessible. Piano Fitness is open-source, works with standard MIDI keyboards, and keeps practice history on the device.
Educational integrity
The app can show expected notes and report results such as completion, accuracy, and tempo. It does not evaluate physical hand posture or replace a teacher’s musical and technical judgment.
Community collaboration
We develop in public and welcome contributions from developers, piano educators, and enthusiasts who want to improve the project.
Our approach
Piano Fitness supports practice through:
- Interactive visualisation: A piano interface makes the notes and patterns in each exercise visible.
- MIDI-aware feedback: With a connected MIDI keyboard, learners can work through expected notes and review completed exercises.
- Structured progression: Exercises and curriculum paths offer a practical route through technical and harmonic foundations.
- Continuity tools: A metronome, local practice history, and profiles make it easier to return to focused work over time.
