An introduction to Piano Fitness: open-source, MIDI-aware practice for piano technique and foundational harmony
Welcome to Piano Fitness
Piano Fitness is an open-source practice app for pianists who want to make technical patterns and foundational harmony more concrete at the keyboard. It is designed to complement lessons, repertoire practice, and self-directed study—not to replace a teacher.
What it supports
Piano Fitness brings together focused exercises for scales, arpeggios, chords, progressions, and cadences. With a MIDI keyboard connected, the app can show the expected notes and provide feedback on completed exercises, including accuracy and measured tempo.
The app also includes a visual piano, a metronome, local practice history, and profiles. These tools are intended to help you choose a small practice focus, observe what happened, and decide what to revisit next.
What it does not claim to do
Piano Fitness does not assess hand posture or replace the musical judgment of a teacher. Its feedback is based on the musical input it receives, so use it as a practice companion alongside careful listening, good instruction, and your own musical goals.
Follow the project
The next public iPad release is currently being prepared. Until then, you can follow development, inspect the source code, or contribute through the Piano Fitness GitHub repository.
We are building the project in public because useful practice tools benefit from input from learners, teachers, musicians, and developers.
